5 tips to have a healthy balance with social media!

5 tips to have a healthy balance with social media!

Social media has become a big part of our daily lives, but with its many benefits comes a range of problems. As I always say convenience comes with consequences. Here are just a few benefits and problems that I find relatable.

BENEFITS:

– Connecting with others in a positive beneficial way.

– Education.

– Sharing your world in a way others can benefit from.

– Building Communities.

– Bringing awareness.

PROBLEMS:

– Isolation. Which affects the relationships around you.

– Addiction.

– Mental health.

– Affecting daily productiveness.

– Negatively rewiring the brain.

To create a healthy balance, to ensure you don’t lose who you are. I think it is extremely important to prioritise discipline with ourselves when it comes to social media.

So how do we find balance and use social media in a healthy way? Here are some of my tips:

  1. Set boundaries: It’s important to set boundaries for yourself when it comes to social media. For example, try limiting your social media use to certain times of the day or setting a time limit for how long you can spend scrolling. There are many apps out there to help with this. But if you are an Android user, I recommend an app called Lock me out.
  1. Practice mindfulness: Before opening a social media app, take a moment to check in with yourself and ask if you need to use it at that moment. This can help you be more mindful of your social media use and reduce mindless scrolling.
  1. Prioritise offline activities: Make sure to prioritize activities that don’t involve social media, such as spending time with your partner, family and friends, reading a book, doing a puzzle or finding hobbies that interest you, and getting out into nature. You can even try grounding/earthing I love doing this. It gives you this instant feeling of calm because contact with the Earth’s natural electric charge stabilizes the physiology at the deepest levels, reduces inflammation, pain, and stress, improves blood flow, energy, and sleep, and generates greater well-being.
  1. Unfollow or mute accounts that don’t serve you: If you find that certain accounts are making you feel negative emotions or triggering unhealthy thoughts, consider unfollowing or muting them.
  1. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by social media, take a break. Maybe once a week you could have a social media-free day.

Everyone is created differently, it’s up to each individual to find what works best for them when it comes to using social media in a healthy way. By setting boundaries, practising mindfulness, and prioritising offline activities, you can use social media in a way that enhances your life rather than detracts from it.

Jerome’s Wholesome Life first blog!

As-Salamu Alaykum “Peace be to you”, Welcome to Jerome’s wholesome life first blog post, I am Jerome. I was born in South Africa. When I was 5 years old my parents decided to give my sister and me the best future possible. They left their home, family and friends to raise us in Australia. I have always felt very lucky to live in Australia and I am extremely grateful to my parents. In my mid-20s I converted to Islam, Alhamdulillah “praise be to God” and I have never looked back. Islam has given me a purpose in life as to why I am here, which brings me peace.

The pandemic changed the world including me. One of the changes for me was trying to have more balance in my life. For a very long time, I haven’t put myself first. I missed out on doing what was best for me, especially when it came to my mind, body, Faith and overall wellness. I feel blessed that I am finding balance now to focus on myself. I believe that when we are the best version of ourselves the world can be a better place.

I feel blessed that I have time now to focus on myself. I believe that when we are the best version of ourselves the world can be a better place. This brings me to blogging. There are a few reasons that excite me to start blogging. One is, I am a big talker, you can ask anyone that knows me I can talk a lot. Sometimes so much so. That after a conversation I can feel guilty about taking up too much of people’s time. Another reason I am starting blogging is, I feel I have a lot to share with the world so I am putting my energy into writing blogs and seeing where it will take me.

I believe I am a very simple girl living in a wild world that is only getting wilder and more complicated by the day. Most of the time I feel I am running in the opposite direction to everyone else on this planet. I long for a simple wholesome life. Where I have time to breathe, and be present in every moment of my day.

I think by the above you can kind of tell what some of my blogs will be about. I want to share my journey to being the best version of myself. Through continuing to educate myself on mind, body, Faith and overall wellness. I hope by sharing my blogs it will also benefit others.

I will be posting fortnightly. I am aiming not to write lengthy blogs, but that will depend on the topic. My goal is for my blogs to be short, sweet and beneficial.

I hope you have enjoyed what you have read so far and find my future blogs beneficial to you. I am excited to share my journey and express myself in a new light. I am truly looking forward to connecting and building a community of like-minded people.
